What you can expect from our program
Formal Education:
The Division of Emergency Medicine will provide tuition support for a Master’s Degree with a focus on education, as well as the ACEP Teaching Fellowship. Fellows will have the opportunity to attend CORD as well as other annual conferences of their choice (SAEM, ACEP, AAEM, AAMC, etc), and be required to present educational innovations on a national stage. Fellows will also be encouraged to participate in programs such as MERC, the Macy Scholars Program, and local Education Day curricula offered through the Washington University in Saint Louis.

Undergraduate Medical Education:
- Serve as a mentor and educator for students on the EM Clerkship
- Serve as an advisor and mentor for the Emergency Medicine Interest Group
- Serve as an advisor for the EMIG SimWars team
- Lecture monthly in an EM topic of choice for the EM Clerkship lecture series
Graduate Medical Education:
- Lecture monthly in the EM core content lecture series
- Participate in and design monthly EM simulation and critical procedure lab sessions
- Participate in and design monthly Team-Based Learning and small group sessions
- Protected time for weekly Tuesday Resident Conference
- Active role as an instructor in the PGY3 Education Rotation
Education Administration:
- Non-voting member on the Washington University School of Medicine Committee on Medical Education, Pre-clinical Curriculum Committee, and Clinical Curriculum Committee
- Quarterly meetings with the Associate Dean of Medical Education to discuss Undergraduate Medical Education structure, governance, and administration
- Member of the EM Residency Clinical Competency Committee (CCC)
- Member of the EM Residency Program Evaluation Committee (PEC)
- Participate in the annual Residency Leadership Retreat
- Serve as a Junior Assistant Residency Director during Year 2
Research:
- Develop the skills to conduct education research including construction of quality educational research questions, measurement instruments, IRB proposals, statistical analysis, and implementation
- Design and complete an educational research innovation to be presented in a national forum (CORD, SAEM, ACEP, AAEM, etc)
- Develop an understanding of EM educational funding sources, grant composition and submission
Faculty and Professional Development:
- Participation as a Junior Faculty Member in the Emergency Medicine Faculty Development Initiative
- Participate in the annual Emergency Medicine Faculty Retreat
- Develop an understanding of Hospital and University Administration as it influences and supports Emergency Medicine education
- Develop an understanding of the Promotion and Tenure process within an academic medical center
Additional Activities:
- Opportunity to serve as a mentor for the pre-clinical Practice of Medicine course
- Opportunity to serve as medical student clinical skills preceptor
- Encouraged to participate in the pre-clinical medical student Emergency Medicine Selective
- Encouraged to serve as the preceptor for a MS4 EM Specialty Selective (Wilderness Medicine, Medical Education, Rural EM, etc)
- Encouraged to serve as an Emergency Medicine Residency Family Advisor
