Our Mission

Our mission is to provide exemplary health care to all who are in need with efficiency and compassion, and through research and teaching, to develop future generations of physicians with the knowledge, skills and values to do the same.

Profound Community Impact Each & Every Day

Washington University emergency physicians see more than 150,000 patients annually.

Each year, a new class of residents and fellows come to WUSM to gain knowledge and cutting-edge skills in emergency medicine.

Every year, emergency medicine residents and fellows graduate and settle throughout the nation, treating patients and training new doctors.

When hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquakes strike, WUSM emergency physicians deploy with Disaster Medical Assistance Teams to treat patients and provide medical direction.

WUSM emergency physicians provide on-site services for area events ranging from professional football to community fairs.

Our EMS physicians train area police, fire departments and other first responders and provide medical direction for many local organizations.

Emergency medicine physicians volunteer for medical missions around the world.

WUSM emergency physicians serve on local, state and national advisory boards to assure that critical laws and policies impacting the public meet required medical standards.

WUSM Emergency physicians conduct critical research programs and share academic knowledge with peers impacting patient outcomes throughout the world.

  • Train emergency physicians who will impact the entire nation.
  • Advance emergency medicine through research.
  • Defray treatment costs for uninsured patients in our community.
  • Provide continuing medical education for physicians and nurses.
