Department of Defense: ATO-06: ALERT – A Prospective Evaluation of Biomarkers of Mild, and Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury
Role: Site PI for Washington University
The study evaluates the sensitivity and specificity of two neuronal biomarkers for brain injury: Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), and ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase (UCH-L1). The criterion standard consists of both computed tomographic imaging, and neuropsychological (cognitive) testing. The aim is to be able to perform point-of-care testing using these biomarkers on a portable platform and to have rapidly producible results to allow better triaging of imaging, and to better diagnose TBI.
