Jason Wagner, MD
- Email: jwagner@nospam.wustl.edu
Jason started as a resident at WashU in 2001 with his wife and three kids graduating as a Chief Resident in 2005 whereupon, he then became full clinical faculty as a nocturnist working 12 hours shifts in an effort to balance his family needs with clinical life. While living his best night life for nearly a decade, Jason added on the duties of Simulation Director for Emergency Medicine a couple of years later. This focus on education lit the flame that would lead to his start as an APD in 2011. During his time as APD, Jason focused on continually improving sim education along with remediation and revamping the resident conference curriculum.
When initially asked about any interest in being the future Program Director, Jason’s answer was, “Hell no!” This position quickly changed, and Jason became only the third PD (the best job in the world) for Washington University Emergency Medicine in 2014, replacing Doug Char after his 14 years in that position. Jason wrapped up his time as PD in 2023 shortly after being named Vice Chair for Education. While PD, Jason focused his efforts on innovation both locally and nationally with substantial changes to both the clinical and didactic education of the residents. He also spearheaded a focus on diversifying our applicant pool and matched residents. Nationally, Jason continues involvement in Council of Residency Directors in EM serving on multiple committees, as conference Track Chair, Academic Assembly Chair, and currently as a Board Member. His national work also involves SAEM, ACEP, and the ACEP/CORD Teaching Fellowship along with Editorial duties for SAEM AE&T journal.
Additionally, Jason was an US Army Ranger Infantryman, F-15 Flight surgeon, and current USAF Critical Care Air Transport Team Physician.
Whether you’re someone looking to grow your niche and presence in the Medical School or Department of EM at WashU, want to learn how to get involved on the national level, or are military curious – Jason is more than happy to offer guidance and support.
