Bio

Dr. Ancona’s research interests focuses on the intersection of public health and emergency medicine. Emergency departments (EDs) are the medical safety net in the United States, as the only medical setting required to accept all patients for care regardless of their ability to pay for services. As such, EDs are often the only medical touch-point for patients not in regular or preventative medical care. This makes EDs an ideal setting for many public health interventions. However, for interventions to be effective, they need to be feasible and pragmatic. Dr. Ancona is specifically interested in leveraging electronic medical record data and machine learning to automate identification of patients with unmet medical and/or social needs and linking them to care.
