Medical students are an integral part of the Department of Emergency Medicine. From day one, you’re expected to pick up patients and act as their primary physician. You will see a wide range of patients, from those in the ambulatory care section to those who are critically ill. You’ll present your patients directly to attending physicians during the majority of your time in the ED and will have the opportunity to perform procedures such as suturing lacerations, draining abscesses, intubation and resuscitation.

In addition to clinical work, you will be responsible for attending grand rounds and interesting case conference as well as small group/simulation sessions consisting of resident-run case studies and attending-run didactic rounds. You’ll also have protected time to attend the department-sponsored journal club, an airway lab, a suture lab, an ultrasound lab, and depending on the time of year, an invasive procedure lab.

We look forward to having you rotate with us and experience emergency medicine.
