The two-year program culminates in a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) degree and is designed for the trainee to develop and submit a competitive K award grant proposal.

In order to develop a more collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to research, emergency medicine research fellows will be exposed to broad didactic and practical research training. The fellowship curriculum includes instruction in clinical research, clinical trials, epidemiology, biostatistics, health behavior, health services research, and biomedical science. Each fellow will work closely with the fellowship director to determine an individualized curriculum which will be of maximum benefit and relevance based on their past experience, current research project and future academic goals.

The emergency medicine research fellowship is integrated with the Multidisciplinary Training Program in Clinical Investigation (MTPCI). This program has developed a highly successful, multidisciplinary approach to clinical research training. The integration of hundreds of smaller, individual programs into the MTPCI has improved collaboration between diverse groups and enhanced the evolution of more successful clinical researchers.

Through the MTPCI, emergency medicine research fellows will have access to the Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) program, which incorporates didactic course work, weekly feedback seminars and monthly career development sessions.
