Bio

Evan Schwarz graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in 2001.  While a student, he participated in multiple organizations including serving in the Student Government as a Representative of the College of Natural Sciences.  He then attended medical school at the University of Texas Branch in Galveston, Texas, before completing a residency in Emergency Medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine.  In addition to being elected a Chief Resident during his last year of residency, he was also elected as a resident member to the Missouri College of Emergency Physicians Board of Directors and won the Clinical Teaching Award.  During this time, he also served as the editor for the Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment (LLSA) column in Emergency Physicians Monthly.  After residency, he moved to Dallas where he was accepted into the University of Texas Southwestern chool of Medicine Medical Toxicology Fellowship in 2009.  He completed the fellowship in 2011 and joined the faculty of Emergency Medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.  He is currently an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and the Medical Toxicology Fellowship Director and Section Chief.  In addition to his clinical teaching responsibilities, he is one of three Advisory Deans in the Office of Student Affairs, and volunteers at the Saturday Neighborhood Health Clinic (the free clinic run by Washington University School of Medicine students).

Dr. Schwarz’s research interests are primarily toxicology focused.  He is actively involved with the Toxicology Investigator’s Consortium (ToxIC) through the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT).  He has presented multiple ToxIC-related abstracts, and at the 2014 ACMT Scientific Symposium, his resident won best platform presentation for physostigmine-related research which has since been published.  In addition to ToxIC, he is also actively involved in research with sname envenomation, acetadote dosing for acetaminophen toxicity, and ketamine for treating pain and agitated delirium.  He has >20 peer-reviewed publications in addition to over 20 abstract presentation at various scientific meetings.  He is a reviewer for the Journal of Medical Toxicology and Clinical Toxicology and was recently named an associate editor for the Journal of Internal and Emergency Medicine.  He was elected to the Board of the Missouri College of Emergency Physicians (MOCEP) in 2012 and has served on the editorial board for Emergency Physicians Monthly since 2010.  In 2016, he was eleted as the Vice President for MOCEP as well as being elected to the board of directors for the American College of Medical Toxicology.  He can be followed on twitter at the handle @TheSchwarziee
